Raines, Norval to represent SWIM at U SPORTS Championships
Golden Hawks swimmers will take on the best in Canada in Toronto this week

TORONTO (February 21, 2018) - Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks swimmers Jasmine Raines and Connor Norval will represent the purple and gold at the 2018 U SPORTS Championships, hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues, this week at Varsity Pool.

The national championships will get underway Thursday, February 22 and conclude on Saturday, February 24.

Raines, a native of Kitchener, Ont., who is making her second appearance at the U SPORTS Championships, will compete in the three breaststroke distances along with the 200m individual medley. A gold and silver medalists at the OUA Championships this year, the second year health sciences major will be looking to build upon her showing from last season when she finished sixth in the 200m breaststroke and 10th in the 100m breaststroke.

As for Norval, who is originally from Richmond Hill, Ont., he will be competing in his first U SPORTS Championship after a strong rookie campaign with the Hawks. Swimming in the 100m and 200m butterfly, the 200m freestyle and the 1500m freestyle, the first year economics major will be looking to build upon two Top 16 finishes at the OUA Championships where he was 11th in the 1500m freestyle and 14th in the 200m butterfly.

Preliminaries for races will begin each day at 10 a.m. with finals getting underway at 6 p.m. All finals will be broadcast live on USPORTS.LIVE with a subscription required to watch the action.
