SUDBURY, Ont. (February 19, 2018) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team had their season come to an end on a losing note as they lost their last two contests of the regular season, falling 3-1 to the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday and 4-2 to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday.
The contests marked the final two games in the illustrious career of head coach Rick Osborne after he announced earlier this year that this season would be his last behind the bench of the purple and gold. He officially ends his career with a record of 415 wins, 155 losses and 20 ties across all competitions, the fourth-most wins ever recorded by a U SPORTS women’s hockey coach.
Forward Emily Woodhouse of St. Marys, Ont., was one of the bright spots for Laurier on the weekend as she was in on all three of the Hawks’ goals, scoring twice and adding one assist. The performance left her as the team’s leading scorer for the second consecutive year as she finished 2017-18 with six goals and two assists.
Rookie netminder Hannah Miller of Georgetown, Ont., was in goal for both games and allowed seven goals on 62 shots against. That dropped her out of top spot in the conference for save percentage but she still managed to finish her first season with a 1.92 goals against average and a 0.940 save percentage.
The two losses leave the Hawks with a 2-3-16-3 record for the year.
