TORONTO (February 5, 2018) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks middle distance team picked up some hardware on the weekend as three Hawks found the podium at the York Open.
Leading the way for the purple and gold was Jessica Martin of Port Elgin, Ont., who posted a new personal best in the 1000m to win silver for Laurier. Her time of three minutes, 5.18 seconds shaved over four seconds off her showing at the Don Wright Meet earlier this season.
Two Hawks also collected bronze medals in Toronto as Michael Charanduk of Etobicoke, Ont., finished in 9:02.82 to earn the top showing by a university runner while Bettina Boucher of Whitby, Ont., crossed the line in third in the 1500m in 4:41.09.
Other highlights from the meet included new personal best times from Zack Savlov of Toronto, and Nathan Jeffrey of Waterloo, Ont., in the 1000m, Charles Binks-Collier of Toronto, and Reid Carpenter of Aurora, Ont., in the 600m and Emma Segato of Ayr, Ont., in the 1500m.
Laurier will now turn their sights to the final meet prior to the OUA Championships as they head to the Guelph Last Chance on February 16 and 17.
