WINDSOR, Ont. (February 3, 2018) – Forced to turn around and hit the road just two days after a physically and emotionally draining game against the No. 2 Brock Badgers, it appeared on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor that the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s basketball team could not summon that same level of energy they had played with against Brock, allowing the Windsor Lancers to score an all-important 90-83 victory.

It was safe to say that Head Coach Justin Serresse was not thrilled with the effort post-game.

“We didn’t play any defence,” he said, after the Lancers (10-9) shot 46 percent from the floor and 40 percent from downtown.

Perhaps most frustrating for the coach was the 28 points given up in the fourth quarter, after the Hawks (9-11) had worked their way back from a sizable deficit to tie the game at 62 heading into the final quarter.

A game between two teams that enjoy and thrive on playing at a fast pace, the purple and gold were able to get their share of offence in as well. Tevaun Kokko (Markham, Ont.) led the Hawks with 20 points on the night, while Ali Sow (Ottawa, Ont.) and Chuder Teny (Kitchener, Ont.) packed some scoring punch off the bench, each hitting double figures.

However, in a game Serresse described as a ‘playoff game’, he was unsatisfied with his team only putting in effort on one end of the floor, knowing that if they want to go anywhere come the postseason, the defence will need to be spot on, something the Hawks have proven they can do, but not on a consistent basis.

With the win, the Lancers take over sole possession of third in the OUA West from the purple and gold, who will have work to do next week if they want to reclaim that spot in the standings..

Up next is the Western Mustangs on Wednesday, February 7 at the University of Waterloo's Physical Activities Complex.

Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
