WATERLOO, Ont. (January 29, 2018) - Men's basketball forward Kemel Archer of Brampton, Ont. and women's hockey defenceman Kaitlin Saxton of Oakville, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 28, 2018.

Archer put up an impressive performance this past week as he helped Laurier go 1-1 against McMaster and Waterloo. In a narrow 75-71 loss to McMaster at the Hawks' School Day Game, the third-year sociology major scored a career-high 23 points, going 7-for-11 from the field and 9-for-12 from the line, alongside nine rebounds and one assist. Despite struggling with his shot against Waterloo, Archer came up big in other categories, including a career-high four assists in a crucial 97-78 win over the Warriors in the Battle of Waterloo. With his performance, he moves to eighth in the conference for shooting percentage at 56.1from the field thus far this season.
This is Archer's first time earning Male Athlete of the Week honours.

Saxton, a rookie defenceman, was an undeniable presence on the ice this past week as the purple and gold faced off against the Windsor Lancers. The first year kinesiology and physical education major tallied the first point of her OUA career when she assisted with the opening goal of the game. She then follow that up by scoring two power play goals, one of which was the game-winning goal. With her performance, Laurier ended a season-long six-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory.

This is Saxton's first time earning Female Athlete of the Week honours.
