WATERLOO, Ont. (January 28, 2018) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's hockey team had their losing streak extended to four games on Saturday afternoon as they gave up three unanswered goals in the third period to fall 5-3 to the No. 8 Guelph Gryphons.

Freshman Mathieu Henderson (Brantford, Ont.) opened the scoring giving the Gryphons a 1-0 lead. Laurier's goaltender Chris Festarini (Oakville, Ont.) made a highlight save diving left to right keeping to keep the Guelph lead to just one but Guelph's Todd Winter (Unxbridge, Ont.) scored shortly thereafter, bringing Guelph to a 2-0 lead to finish the first.

Into the second frame, Anthony Sorrentino (Woodbridge, Ont.) used the power play to his advantage as he got the puck just past the goal line to cut the Gryphon's lead in half.

With little time left on the clock, Golden Hawk defenceman-turned-forward Braydon Blight (St.Mary's, Ont.) scored his first career goal with the OUA to skate off the ice with a 2-2 tie at the end of the second.

Erik Pushka (Duglad, Man.) converted a five-minute power play early in the third for Laurier as he potted home a rebound to bring the Hawks to a 3-2 lead.

Although things began to look optimal as the purple and gold were playing a strong game, Guelph scored three more goals, including one empty-netter, to take home the 5-3 victory.

Left winger Cody Thompson (Mississauga, Ont.) led the way for Guelph scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner.

Festarini took the loss for the Hawks saving 26 of the 30 shots sent his way.

On the other side of the ice, Guelph's Andrew Masters (Kitchener, Ont.) took the win as he turned aside 24 shots.

Next up the Hawks return to home ice against the Western Mustangs on Thursday, February 1. The puck is set to drop at 7:07 p.m. at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
