LONDON, Ont. (January 26, 2018) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's hockey had their losing streak extended to three games on Thursday night as they fell to the red-hot Western Mustangs by a score of 6-2 at Thompson Arena.

The Mustangs, who had won six in a row coming into the game, flew out of the gate early in the first frame with an early goal off the stick of Cordell James (Powassan, Ont.) less than a minute into the game.

Leading 1-0 heading to the second period, Western added two more tallies to lead 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Neil Aird (Ancaster, Ont.) brought some promise for the purple and gold as he scored early in the third. This promise for a comeback was shortly lived, however, as Western answered with three more goals.

Matt Franczyk (Winnipeg, Man.) scored for Laurier late in the third period to round out the scoring.

Both James and Ray Heuther of Londesborough, Ont., led the way for Western scoring a pair of goals each.

Colin Furlong (Cambridge, Ont.) took the loss between the pipes for the purple and gold as he stopped 19 of the 22 shots that came his way. Chris Festarini (Oakville, Ont.) took over in the third frame and finished with 12 saves in relief

On the other side of the ice, Western's Luke Peresinni (Nobleton, Ont.) took the win as he turned aside 19 shots.

Next up the Hawks return to home ice against the Guelph Gryphons for Autograph Day and Laurier Student Dollar Day on Saturday, January 27. The puck is set to drop at 1:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
