WATERLOO, Ont. (January 21, 2018) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team saw their losing streak stretched to five games on Sunday afternoon as they lost 2-1 in a shootout to the Waterloo Warriors at Columbia Ice Field.

Madison MacCulloch of Toronto, opened the scoring for the Hawks midway through the second period with an unassisted tally. The goal marked the first time all season that Laurier had found the game’s opening goal.

However, the lead was short lived as Angela MacDonald of Kitchener, Ont., responded with a powerplay tally less than two minutes later, erasing the Hawks advantage.

Goalies Hannah Miller of Georgetown, Ont., and Taylor Reimer of Morden, Man., stood tall the rest of the way for Laurier and Waterloo respectively as they finished with 36 and 26 saves each to force the game to a shootout.

In the shootout, Samantha Burbridge of Brantford, Ont., and MacDonald would score while Reimer denied MacCulloch and Emily Woodhouse of St. Marys, Ont., to give Waterloo the win and the season sweep.

The Hawks will attempt to put an end to their five game losing streak on Friday when they head to London for a School Day Game against the Western Mustangs. Puck drop is set for 11:30 a.m. at Thompson Arena.
