HAMILTON (January 13, 2018) - On Saturday afternoon, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team lost 81-59 to the No. 10 McMaster Marauders in Hamilton to see their losing streak extended to four games.

With four players scoring double-digit points, the Marauders had too much offensive firepower for the Hawks to handle.

Linnaea Harper (Newmarket, Ont.) led the way with 22, Hillary Hanaka (Hamilton, Ont) and Olivia Wilson (Lion’s Head, Ont.) both produced 15 while Sarah Gates (Newmarket, Ont.) contributed with 12 off the bench. The Marauders shot an impressive 42 percent from the field and shot 34 percent from three-point range, connecting on 12 long-range attempts.

For Laurier, Nicole Morrison (Hamilton, Ont.) was the leading-scorer as the fifth-year guard garnered 19 points, in addition to collecting four rebounds and four steals. She was not the only double-digit scorer on the team as Irena Rynkiewicz (Mississauga, Ont.) contributed with a 14-point performance, which included two three-point makes.

As a team, the Hawks shot 36.7 percent from the field but struggled from the outside. Laurier connected on only four of 21 three-point attempts, shooting 19 percent from beyond the arc.

With the loss, the purple and gold fall to 6-8 on the season to sit tied for fifth in the OUA West Division. The victory, meanwhile, moves McMaster to 10-4 on the year and in a tie with Lakehead for second in the division.

Next up for Laurier is a doubleheader against Algoma (2-12) next weekend where the Hawks will look to put an end to their losing skid.

The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, January 19th at the Athletic Complex in Waterloo.
