THE LOW DOWN
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey program was hit with the news this week that head coach Rick Osborne will call it a career at the end of this season following an incredible 15-year stint behind the bench. Currently ranked fourth all-time in U SPORTS history for career victories, Osborne will be looking to guide his team to a strong finish to the 2017-18 season as Laurier looks to track down a playoff spot.

Needing a big weekend on home ice playing two teams battling for the final playoff spots, the Hawks will look to use the motivation of playing for their coach to propel them to victories against the Nipissing Lakers and the Laurentian Voyageurs as they try to keep their postseason hopes alive.

NEED TO KNOW
- Laurier is facing both Nipissing and Laurentian for the first time this season and will also close out the regular season against the two teams on the road
- the Hawks are riding a two-game losing streak against the Lakers while the purple and gold have lost four straight to the Voyageurs, including being shut out in the last three meetings
- Nipissing comes into this weekend ranked fifth in the OUA with 26 points on the season
- Laurentian sits two points out of the final playoff spot with 20 points on the year
- the Hawks have lost two straight games coming into play this weekend while the Lakers are on a two-game winning streak and the Voyageurs have won three straight

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (1-1-9-2)

D Jamie Watson (Georgetown, Ont.)
- the second year defenceman has been one of Coach Osborne’s most reliable players all season, playing big minutes in all situations on the blueline
- tied for the team lead in assists with three, look for Watson to help drive Laurier’s offence from the back end this weekend

F Emily Visser (Caledonia, Ont.)
- the rookie has been at the centre of both Laurier victories this season as she has recorded a goal and an assist in both wins
- the Hawks will look for the young forward to continue her solid first year with the purple and gold against the Lakers and Voyageurs

Nipissing Lakers (7-2-4-1)

F Maria Dominico (North Bay, Ont.)
- the rookie forward has been outstanding in her first year in the OUA, leading the conference in scoring with 16 points and ranking second in goals with 10
- despite the strong year, she has been slowed as of late with only one goal to show for her last three games

Laurentian Voyageurs (5-1-5-3)

F Samantha Morell (Lombardy, Ont.)
- fifth year forward has been a leader for Laurentian all year, leading the team in goals (eight) and game-winning goals (two)
- currently has a four-game goal scoring streak heading into action this weekend
