BRAMPTON, Ont. (December 8, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks cheerleading team came up just short in their bid for a ninth national championship as they finished third at the recent PCA Collegiate National Championship hosted on November 25 at the Powerade Centre.

Competing against nine other universities in the all-girl category, Laurier put together two strong performances to finish with 415.3 points, just 11 points behind the champions, the Western Mustangs.

“We are so incredibly proud of the team and how they have worked so hard to push through all of the obstacles that have been thrown in front of them,” commented co-head coach Amy Weston. “This group of young ladies put two amazing runs on the floor at PCA’s and they will always remember the feeling they had walking off the floor knowing they had given all they could. The results didn’t turn out the way we had hoped but we are so incredibly proud of this team.”

Laurier opened the championship with a score of 208.3 which had them sitting in second place after the opening performances. The Hawks then posted a score of 207 in the second run, but it wasn’t enough to vault them past Western or Guelph, who finished second.

The purple and gold are eight-time championships in the all-girl division at the PCA Collegiate National Championship with victories coming in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
