What an evening at the Laurier Athletic Complex on Decemeber 1st, as the Golden Hawks women’s and men’s basketball teams took on the Waterloo Warriors to see who would win this Battle of Waterloo. Not only was it a rivalry game, but student dollar day brought out huge numbers in support of the Shoot for the Cure game.
Up first, the women took on the Warriors in a tight game. Throughout the first 2 quarters, both teams kept back in forth with limited turnovers during the neck and neck game. It was during the second half when the Golden Hawks truly soared as they put up huge numbers against Waterloo. Pushing hard against the Warriors, the Golden Hawks came out on top with a final score of 67-50.
Next up, the men’s team knew they were going to have a big game as they fought during this Battle of Waterloo. During the first half of the game, the Golden Hawks kept the score close as the Warriors continued to push for the win. In the second half of the game, the Hawks continued to play their hardest but fell just short of the Warriors in the last quarter with a score of 85-74.
With the Shoot for the Cure game bringing out tons of fans, the Athletic Complex was rumbling with excitement. Standing out among the crowd was Maria Minutillo, the aunt of Laurier’s very own #2 Matt Minutillo. Maria brought incredible energy to the stands on Friday night as she wore both her Laurier gear and pink clothing in support of Shoot for the Cure. It was hard to miss Maria as she cheered hard with her brand new sign to support her nephew during the 2017/2018 season #ProudAunt. For Maria’s constant support of the Golden Hawks, she went home as the Wilf’s Fan of the Game alongside a t-shirt and gift card to Wilf’s Restaurant & Bar.
Want to be the next Wilf’s Fan of the Game? Bring your Golden Hawk support on Saturday January 6th at 8pm, as Laurier takes on Windsor in the first home game of the New Year.
