On Friday evening, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team will look to end the 2017 portion of their regular season with a victory. Their opponents, the Waterloo Warriors, will be making the short trip down the road set to battle the Hawks for the first time this season. With a win, Laurier would move one step closer to capturing the inaugural Battle of Waterloo trophy as the Golden Hawks need just two more wins following men's hockey's victory yesterday afternoon.

Laurier will aim to get back into the win column after dropping a tough loss to Ryerson last Saturday, falling 72-59 to the Rams in Toronto. The Hawks hold a 5-4 record on the year and are tied for fourth in the OUA West standings.

The Warriors, meanwhile, have lost nine consecutive games to open the season, and only hold a better record than the Algoma Thunderbirds who are 0-10.

- A number of fundraising opportunities will be ongoing throughout the game to support the team's Shoot for the Cure initiative including a raffle, a bake sale as well as all proceeds from the bean bag toss going towards the team's fundraising efforts
- At halftime, fifth year guard Nicole Morrison will be recognized for becoming the fourth Golden Hawk to score 1000 points in her career when she accomplished the feat against Ottawa back on November 10
- following the game, the Hawks will be hosting their annual Autograph Day and will be in the Hawk Lounge signing autographs for fans

- The Hawks are coming off a weekend performance in which they went 1-1, beating Toronto last Friday but falling to Ryerson on the second end of the back to back.
- Laurier won both games against Waterloo last season, on the backs of great performances by Nicole Morrison (Hamilton, Ont.) and Sarah Dillon (Welland, Ont.) who both recorded double-digit points in the two games.
- The Hawks have dominated the head-to-head competition over Waterloo, having not lost this decade against the Warriors despite playing their cross-town rivals at least twice a year.
- Under coach Paul Falco, the purple and gold have put an extra emphasis on taking care of the ball this season. As a result, the team currently averages the second fewest turnovers in the OUA, committing only 14.8 per game.
- Waterloo’s 0-9 start can be accredited to their performance on the offensive end. The Warriors have struggled to score the ball, averaging a league worst 42.4 points per contest

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (5-4)

#23 G Sarah Dillon (Welland, Ont.)
- The fifth-year guard exemplifies the shooter’s mentality when on the court. A threat from behind the arc, Dillon is never afraid to let it fly and is second on the team in made threes, knocking down 12 so far this season.
- She averaged 13.5 points and a pair of threes in games against the Warriors last season.

#5 G Nicole Morrison (Hamilton, Ont.)
- Laurier’s leader in several categories, Morrison leaves her mark on the game in a variety of ways. The fifth-year guard is second in the OUA in scoring (20.2 ppg), tied for second in assists (4.6 apg) and has the ninth best free-throw percentage, shooting at a clip of 81.7 percent.
- In a 22-point performance last Saturday against Ryerson, Morrison was perfect from the foul line, knocking down all ten of her attempts.

Waterloo Warriors (0-9)

#6 G Sydney Wilson (Guelph, Ont.)
- The second-year guard leads the team in scoring, and has recorded double-digit points in five games this season
