Golden Hawks look to secure two wins as they bring the Battle of Waterloo to home ice before hitting the road against York

THE LOW-DOWN
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey team will kick off their final week of play before the winter break as they host their annual School Day Game and Teddy Bear Toss on Thursday morning against the Waterloo Warriors in the first installment of the Battle of Waterloo between the long-time rivals. Laurier will then hit the road for their final game of 2017 against the York Lions, a matchup between two of the top teams in the OUA West Division.

NEED TO KNOW
- The Golden Hawks are currently second in the OUA West standings following a 5-2 win over the No. 5 McGill Redmen in their last contest
- Waterloo enters play this week sitting seventh place in the OUA West standings with 12 points
- York is currently one point up on the purple and gold for first place in the division tied on 21 points with the Guelph Gryphons 
- Laurier and York are meeting for the second time this season after the Hawks handed the Lions their first loss of the year, a 6-2 win in Waterloo at the beginning of November
- The Hawks own an impressive four-game winning streak against their cross-town rivals, the Warriors, including a 5-1 victory in their last meeting over a year ago

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (9-3-2)

F Andrew Fritsch (Brantford, Ont.)
- last year's leading scorer as been on a roll as of late including scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in the Hawks' 5-2 win over McGill
- after a slow start, Fritsch is now tied for second in team scoring with nine points and has four points in his last three games

G Colin Furlong (Cambridge, Ont.)
- The communications major is currently fifth in the OUA with 2.17 goals against average after allowing just two goals on 49 shots last weekend
- Expected to start against York on Friday, Furlong was excellent against the Lions earlier this season, stopping 31 of the 33 shots he faced to secure Laurier a 6-2 win

Waterloo Warriors (5-7-2)

F Daniel Perigo (Truro, Ont.)
- The psychology major leads the team with 13 points on the season
- Has been a big-time playmakers for the Warriors as he's dished out 10 assists this year 

York Lions (10-4-1)

F Scott Feser (Red Deer, Alta.)
- The administrative studies major currently has nine points on the season consisting of four goals and five assists and recently had a six-game point streak snapped
- Was one of two players to find the back of the net in the Lions' last meeting with the Hawks

Following this, the Hawks will be taking a break for the holidays and resume their season when they face off against the Ryerson Rams on January 5, 2018 on home ice at 7:07 p.m.
