WATERLOO, Ont. (November 23, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team put together one of their best efforts of the season thus far on Thursday night but came up short as they lost 3-2 to the No. 10 Brock Badgers at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

Christina Ieradi of Maple, Ont., led the way for Brock (6-2-2-1) as she had a goal and an assist, including the game-winning tally on the powerplay midway through the second period.

Amanda Ieradi of Stittsville, Ont., and Hunter Accursi Ancaster, Ont., added singles for the Badgers who solidified their hold on second place in the conference with the victory.

Emily Woodhouse of St. Marys, Ont., and Jaden Head of Whitby, Ont., replied for the purple and gold.

Facing a nationally-ranked team for the second time this season, the Hawks (1-0-6-1) stuck with the Badgers throughout the contest, making them earn every inch of ice.

After falling behind 1-0 five minutes into the game, Laurier quickly responded as Woodhouse buried her first goal of the season to even the score.

Brock would retake the lead through Accrusi two minutes later and that scoreline held into the second period.

The Badgers stretched their lead to 3-1 as Christine Ieradi scored on a powerplay early in the middle frame but the Hawks responded through Head. She tallied her third goal of the year, also on a powerplay, to give Laurier hope as they trailed 3-2 through 40 minutes.

The Hawks would have their chances to tie the game in the third but each time Brock goalie Jensen Murphy of Kingston, Ont., was there to shut them down. She would go on to make 24 saves to record the victory.

Hannah Miller of Georgetown, Ont., took the loss for Laurier, stopping 31 shots.

Up next for the Hawks is a trip down the 401 to Windsor to take on the Lancers (0-1-7-2) on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. and the game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
