WATERLOO, Ont. (November 13, 2017) - Men's hockey goalie Chris Festarini of Oakville, Ont. and cross country runner Bettina Boucher of Whitby, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 12, 2017.
Festarini put up an impressive performance between the pipes as the Hawks took a 2-1 shootout win over the Windsor Lancers last Saturday. The fourth-year business major was a brick wall in net as he shut down 31 of the 32 shots he faced, including all three in the shootout as well as a penalty shot in overtime. The netminder is currently third overall in the OUA for save percentage with a mark of 0.939 and goals against average at 1.95. With his performance, the Hawks maintained their second place ranking in the OUA West Division with a record of 7-2-1.
This is Festarini’s first time earning Male Athlete of the Week Honours.
Boucher, a third-year business and math double major, was the top performer for the purple and gold at the U SPORTS Championships this past weekend in Victoria. In the 8km race, the Whitby, Ont. native ran alongside 151 runners and finished with an individual ranking of 22nd overall, up four spots from last year, with a posted time of 29 minutes and 50 seconds. With her performance, the cross country team finished the race ranked 18th overall, a three-place improvement from last year.
This is Boucher’s second time earning Female Athlete of the Week Honours.
