WATERLOO, Ont. (November 12, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team ran into a tough opponent on Saturday night and the No. 4 Carleton Ravens looked the part of a nationally-ranked team as they easily handled the Hawks 77-50.

Shooting an impressive 44 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line, Carleton never let up as they outscored Laurier in every quarter. Elizabeth LeBlanc (London, Ont.) and Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, Ont) led the way for the Ravens, finishing with 15 and 14 points respectively.

The team’s defensive performance was just as impressive as what they produced on the offensive end. An emphasis was placed on forcing the Hawks off the three-point line, resulting in Laurier only making three shots from behind the arc. For the game, the Hawks shot 17.5 percent from three and 26.8 percent overall.

Despite the loss, fifth year guard Nicole Morrison of Hamilton continued her climb up Laurier's record books. After finishing the contest with eight points, she is now the third-leading scorer in the history of the program, giving her 1021 for her career. By knocking down a three-pointer in the second quarter, she surpassed the 1019 points recorded by her former teammate Kaitlyn Schenck (Kitchener, Ont.). Now, Morrison only trails Laurier legends Meaghan McGrath (Toronto, Ont.) and Renata Adamczyk (Greensville, Ont.).

No Laurier player scored in the double-digits as Skye Johns (North Bay, Ont.) and Morrison tied for the team-high with eight points each.

Although they lost the game, the Hawks did win the turnover battle. In forcing 18 turnovers and committing just 11 themselves as the Hawks become the first team this season to beat the Ravens in the category.

Laurier will have some time to re-group before welcoming the York Lions and Queen’s Gaels to town next weekend. The Lions game leads-off the weekend on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Athletic Complex.
