WINNIPEG (November 9, 2017) - For the second time her in career, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s soccer midfielder Nicole Lyon has been recognized as a U SPORTS All-Canadian as the national major award winners were celebrated on Wednesday night at the annual All-Canadian Gala at the 2017 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship.
Lyon, a native of Kitchener, Ont., was named a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian after also being named the OUA West Division MVP and an OUA First Team All-Star last week.
In her third full season with the Golden Hawks, Lyon was a dominant force all season in the midfield. She scored four goals and added three assists, tied for second most in the conference this year, as she helped the Hawks finish third in the OUA West division with a 6-3-7 record.
Known for her deft footwork, playmaking ability, powerful shot and physicality, Lyon has now tallied 30 goals in her career, the second most scored by a Laurier player since 2000.
She becomes the ninth Golden Hawk to be named a First Team All-Canadian in team history and the first since Emily Brown accomplished the feat in 2013.
