Offence– Cedric Joseph, Western

In what was an offensive display of dominance for the Western Mustangs, the team’s 66 point outpouring overpowered Guelph in semifinal action, and a key contributor was RB Cedric Joseph.

The Montreal, Que. Native, just as he did a season ago, made a big impact in the provincial semifinal, scoring four touchdowns in the contest for the second consecutive year. Joseph picked up three majors on short-yardage runs, including the game’s opening score just a few minutes in, before capping off his player of the week performance by going virtually untouched into the end zone on a 45-yard run for his final score of the afternoon.

In addition to his four touchdowns, Joseph ended the afternoon with 10 rushes for 69 yards.

Defence – Scott Hutter, Laurier

The Laurier Golden Hawks defence stymied the McMaster Marauders in their semifinal tilt, and a major factor in this shutdown effort was DB Scott Hutter.

The third year Environmental Studies major once again proved to anchor the purple and gold defence. Throughout Saturday’s game, Hutter led a defensive effort that limited the Marauders to just six points on the day, finishing the game with 1.5 tackles, in addition to an interception return and a pass breakup.

Special Teams – Marc Liegghio, Western

The Mustangs put up a total of 66 points in their semifinal win over the Gryphons, and they can thank kicker Marc Liegghio for 16 of them.

Staying true to his regular season form, Liegghio was a point-producing machine on Saturday. The Woodbridge, Ont. native connected on three field goals for the game, which included a 32-yarder, 27-yarder, and his long of 42-yards. The Western kicker also connected on all seven of his extra point attempts to bring his impressive total to 16 points on the day.

To cap off the day, Liegghio also totaled 210 yards on his five punt attempts, twice pinning the Marauders inside the 20.
