Gordon, Morrison named Athletes of the Week
Levondre Gordon leads MFOOT offence through OUA Semifinals; Morrison paces WBASK to back-to-back wins

WATERLOO, Ont. (November 6, 2017)- Men’s football running back Levondre Gordon of Mississauga, Ont., and women’s basketball guard Nicole Morrison from Hamilton, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 5, 2017. 

Saturday afternoon marked the second consecutive year where the Golden Hawks men’s football team hosted the McMaster Marauders in the OUA Semifinal. In this, third year running back Levondre Gordon of Mississauga, Ont., continued to be an offensive threat for the Hawks as he helped the purple and gold to their 19-6 victory over the Marauders. The Sociology major lead Laurier’s offence as he rushed the ball 21 times for 121 yards, and also recorded the only touchdown of the day off the opening drive of the match, to allow Laurier an early 7-0 lead. With the victory, the Hawks look to reclaim their Yates Cup title, as they head back to London to take on the Western Mustangs in the OUA Championship game.

This is Gordon’s fourth time earning Male Athlete of the Week Honours. 

Morrison, a fifth year native of Hamilton, Ont., was an unmistakable force for the Golden Hawks this past weekend, as she paced the team to a pair of wins. During Friday’s 83-40 victory against Nipissing, the Communications major was the top scorer for the purple and gold, with 21 points on the night, in addition to recording six assists.  Similarly on Saturday, the Hawks picked up a 81-75 victory over Laurentian, where Morrison lead the team in points yet again as she matched her career-high with 25 points on the night. She also added eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals to her resume, in addition to being 12-for-14 from the free throw line. Thanks to their performance this weekend, the Golden Hawks are now 2-1 on the season, and tied for third in the OUA West. 

This is Morrison’s seventh time earning Female Athlete of the Week Honours.
