On Saturday at 2:00 pm, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s basketball team begin their 2017-18 season at Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catharines. The Golden Hawks will battle the Brock Badgers, a playoff-team last-season who fell in the first-round to the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Meanwhile, the Golden Hawks are coming off a season in which they made it to the quarter-finals where they lost to the Carleton Ravens, the eventual OUA champions.

The Hawks and the Badgers only played once last season, with Laurier travelling to St. Catherines and taking a 72-67 defeat. Despite a rough 0-5 record in preseason play, the Badgers are currently 1-0 for the OUA regular season, having defeated Western 62-53 on Wednesday. The Hawks finished non-conference play with a 4-2 record and will look to continue their winning ways against the Badgers.

The Hawks will be in tough against the Badgers backcourt duo of Stephanie Findlay (Oakville, Ont.) and Ana Caldeira Rua (Lisbon, Portugal), who scored 15 and 16 points respectively on Wednesday. Expect Laurier’s trio of veteran guards Sarah Dillon (Welland, Ont.), Lauren Jamieson (Oakville, Ont.) and Nicole Morrison (Hamilton, Ont.) to be ready for the challenge
