WLAX lose bronze medal game to Toronto
Golden Hawks unable to contain Varsity Blues offence in 12-8 loss; three Hawks named OUA All-Stars

KITCHENER, Ont. (October 22, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's lacrosse team had their season come to an end on a losing note on Sunday afternoon as they fell 12-8 in the bronze medal match to the Toronto Varsity Blues at the 2017 OUA Championship at Woodside Park.

The Blues scored six times in each half and played solid defence on the Hawks, who were leading the championship tournament in goals entering the final day of play.

Sarah Jamieson of Etobicoke, Ont., was the difference maker on offence for Toronto as she scored four times in the victory.

Torey Barfoot of Owen Sound, Ont., Taylor Miller of Orangeville, Ont., and Rose Williams of Elora, Ont., each scored twice for Laurier who were unable to match their bronze medal finish from a year ago.

In other action on the final day of the tournament, the Western Mustangs claimed their seventh OUA title with a 9-7 win over the Queen's Gaels.

The fifth place and seventh place games were also played on Sunday as Trent defeated Brock 12-5 to finish fifth while Guelph beat McMaster 5-3 to grab seventh place.

Following the championship, three Hawks were named 2017 OUA All-Stars as Emily Ferguson of Waterloo, Ont., was named an OUA First Team All-Star while Miller and Abby Clayton of Fergus, Ont., were named OUA Second Team All-Stars.
