WHKY dealt tough loss at Brantford Homecoming
Hawks defeated 2-0 by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in front of a plethora of supporters

Brantford, Ont. (October 20th, 2017) - On Friday night, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team opened their regular season by playing  host to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in Brantford, Ontario for Laurier Brantford Homecoming. In front a raucous crowd, the two teams engaged in a low-scoring affair, with the Blues ultimately squeaking out a 2-0 victory.

Both Toronto goals came in the 2nd period off the sticks of Jessica Robichaud (Whitby, Ont.) and Kassie Roache (Corunna, Ont.). Kiyono Cox (Redondo Beach, Cali.) assisted on the first goal while Gabrielle De Serres (Ville Mont- Royal, Que.) and Rebecca Bourgeois (Nepean, Ont.) assisted on the second. 

Overall, Toronto peppered the Laurier net with shots, totalling 38 shots for the game. In her first start as a Golden Hawk, first-year netminder Cohen Myers (Shakespeare, Ont.) played exceptionally well. She stopped 36 out of 38 shots, amassing a 95% save percentage. 

On the other end, Toronto goalie Madeline Albert (Whitby, Ont.) stopped all 29 shots she faced, earning her first shutout of the 2017/2018 season.

In terms of attendance, Brantford homecoming was successful. According to the official box score, 503 fans came out to support the purple and gold. 

From here, the Hawks head east to Toronto for a date with the Ryerson Rams. Puck-drop is set for 2:15 pm at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
