Golden Hawks looking to keep up their undefeated record as they face off against Laurentian and Nipissing

THE LOW-DOWN
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey team are hitting the ice this weekend with a road trip up north against Nipissing and Laurentian where they will undoubtedly look to maintain their undefeated record. 

NEED TO KNOW
- The Golden Hawks are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the OUA West standings, with four points off of an undefeated 2-0-0 record
- The Laurentian Voyageurs are currently tied for seventh team in the OUA East standings with two points after posting a 1-1-0 record in their first two games
- With just one point through two games, the Nipissing Lakers sitting next to last in the East division with a 0-1-1 mark on the season
- Laurier last played both these teams in the 2016-17 season; the Hawks suffered a 5-4 overtime loss  against the Nipissing Lakes and a 6-3 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (2-0-0)

RW Will Cook (Port Stanley, Ont.)
- The third year business major is the team’s top scorer, with three goals to his name so far
- Currently sits first on the team in points with three goals and one assist and four points
- Scored three times to propel Laurier to a 8-3 lead in their first contest of the season against Lakehead University

Nipissing Lakers (0-1-1)

F Jake Wright (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.)
- The second year physical and health education major leads the Lakers with three points on the season
- Wright is tied for tenth in the OUA for assists with two to his name

Laurentian Voyageurs (1-1-0)

F Jacob Smith (Sudbury, Ont.)
- The third year sports administration major leads the team with three points on the season
- Currently leading the Voyageurs with one game-winning goal and two assists

Next weekend, the Hawks will play the Ryerson Rams on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:15 p.m. in Toronto at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. The second game of the week will be against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Thursday, November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in Toronto at the Varsity Arena.
