Golden Hawks hoping to gain valuable points against Western and Windsor

Game Dates and Times: Saturday, October 14th - 3:15 pm (at Western) and Sunday, October 15th - 3:15pm (at Windsor)

WATERLOO, ONT (October 13th, 2017)- With just a few games remaining in the 2017/2018 season, this weekend’s games are vitally important to the playoff hopes of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s soccer team. On Saturday, the Hawks are set to battle the Western Mustangs in London and on Sunday, the team travels to Windsor to face the Windsor Lancers. 

Laurier played Western earlier in the year, a physical affair that ended in a 3-1 loss. However, the Hawks fared much better against the Lancers, earning a 3-1 victory on September 16th. Both games this weekend are important to the Hawks’ playoff chances. The team currently sits outside the playoffs, by just one point, having amassed 12 points for the year. The team that holds the final playoff position, the Lancers, have 13 points while playing in one less game on the season. The Mustangs are in fourth position in the OUA West standings, with 24 points this season, and have secured a playoff berth.

The Hawks will enter Saturday’s game coming off a 0-0 draw against cross-town rival, the Waterloo Warriors. Western lost their previous match (against Algoma 2-1), while Windsor last played against the Mustangs two weeks ago, losing 2-0 at Mustang Field.

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks

#10 F Nikola Miokovic (Kitchener, Ont.)
- The fourth-year forward leads the team in goals, having scored six this season
- Miokovic has blasted 33 shots this season, tied for fifth most in the OUA
#9 F Antonio Hecimovic (New Hamburg, Ont.)
- The second-year forward has two game winning goals this year, tied for third best in the OUA
-  He has scored three goals this season

Western Mustangs 

#1 GK Kody Thomson (Calgary, Alta.)
- The third-year goalkeeper leads the league in shutouts, having recorded nine

Windsor Lancers 

#7 M Kyle Ruggaber (Windsor, Ont.)
- The fourth-year midfielder leads the team in goals, having scored six this season
- The midfielder makes the most of his opportunities, as he has scored the six goals on only 12 shots
