MGOLF wins silver at Toronto Invitational
Austin Ryan powers MGOLF to best finish of the year; WGOLF finish seventh

MARKHAM, Ont. (October 10, 2017) - Led by veteran Austin Ryan, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s golf team won the team silver medal at the Toronto Invitational hosted by Angus Glen Golf Club this past weekend.
Over the course of the two-day event, the purple and gold shot a team total of 604, trailing only the Western Mustangs to earn their second podium finish of the season.
Laurier was led at the tournament by Ryan, a fourth year from Owen Sound, Ont., who earned himself an individual silver medal thanks to a two-day total of two-under par 142. The reigning OUA Individual Champion finished one stroke behind Western’s Mac Carter for the gold medal.
Third year Andrew Cox of Kitchener, Ont., also showed well for the purple and gold as he finished in a tie for 12th at eight-over par 152.
In the women’s event, Laurier finished seventh in the team standings and were paced by fifth year Skylar Turkiewicz of Brantford, Ont., who shot 178 over the two days.
The Hawks now turn their attention to the OUA Championship which gets underway with the practice round on Friday, October 13 at Loch March Golf Club in Kanata, Ont. The two-day tournament kicks off on Saturday, October 14 with champions crowned on Sunday, October 15.
