WATERLOO, Ont. (October 10, 2017) - Men’s golfer Austin Ryan and women’s soccer midfielder Nicole Lyon have been announced as this week’s Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 9th, 2017.

Ryan, a fifth-year native of Owen Sound, Ont., opened last week by shooting a round of five-over par 75 to finish tied for fourth at the Guelph Invitational at Cutten Fields. That score topped all Laurier golfers at the event and helped them finish fifth overall. The economics major followed up that performance with a silver medal showing at the Toronto Invitational as he finished at two-under par 142 over the two-day event. That result led the Hawks to a team silver medal, buoying the team’s confidence heading into this weekend’s OUA Championship.

This is Ryan’s first time this season, and the third time in his career, that he has been named the Male Athlete of the Week.

Lyon, a fourth-year native of Kitchener, Ont., netted her fourth goal of the season on Friday as the Hawks earned a 1-1 draw with the Waterloo Warriors in the latest installment of the Battle of Waterloo. The arts major snapped a two-game goalless drought with her tally in the 35th minute of play as Laurier picked up a point for the 11th time in 13 outings this season.

This is Lyon’s sixth time earning Female Athlete of the Week honours in her career and first time this season.
