The Laurier Brantford Golden Hawks Cross Country Team tested their distances at their second season meet this past Saturday at Seneca College. It is safe to say that this was the best showing to date for our program! Our females ran a total of 6k, where we had two of our top runners finish with amazing times. Jessa Braun lead the team with an 11th place finish, and a time of 27:05. Sarah Maier followed with the 16th place and a time of 27:39. These were exceptional times considering they had a change of distance from the 5k that they were accustomed to from the previous year. All of the women stepped up their game and managed to help place our team 6th out of the 15 schools.
Our male athletes ran a distance of 8k, bettering their 5th position from their last race, and improving to a 4th place finish at Seneca. Ahad Naim placing in the top 10, hitting 9th place with 29:52, while Drew Horner (30:37) and Simon Crowley (31:13) pushed coming in the top 25. The male athletes also did an exceptional job by ranking 14th of the top 15 schools nationally within the CCAA (Canadian College Athletic Association). Congratulations to them all! Coach Currie said this was their best meet yet, and is sure that the team will be ready to match or better their times, come OCAA championships at the end of the month. The cross country team looks forward to their next invitational at Centennial College on Saturday, October 14th and Brock University on October 21st, 2017!
