WATERLOO, Ont. (October 2, 2017) – Men’s baseball pitcher Christian Hauck of Orangeville, Ont., and women’s lacrosse goalie Alanna Macdonald of Waterloo, Ont., have been announced as this week’s Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 1st, 2017.
Christian Hauck, a third-year global studies major, continued his strong record from the 2016 season where he achieved the OUA Men’s Baseball Top Pitcher and the OUA Men’s Baseball First Team All-Star. When facing the Waterloo Warriors this past weekend, he dominated the hitters all game long securing a no-hitter. He pitched all seven innings and served the Warriors 0 hits allowed, 0 runs allowed, 0 earned runs allowed, 3 walks allowed and 5 strikeouts. This is Hauck’s second career OUA no-hitter as he had one previously versus McMaster in 2015 as a freshman. With this outstanding performance, men’s baseball went 4-0 this weekend making them second in the OUA with their overall record being 10-3 with 20 points.
This is Hauck’s first time earning Male Athlete of the Week Honours.
Alanna Macdonald, a second-year communications studies major, was a strong force between the posts in this weekend’s matches against Queen’s and York. Although purple and gold were handed a 8-12 loss against the Queen’s Gaels, Macdonald managed to have 8 saves. The weekend took turn for the better when the women’s lacrosse team won 14-1 against the York Lions where Macdonald had 6 saves making her weekend stats the combined total of 14 saves on 27 shots. After this weekend, the Hawks are 5-3 on the season looking to collect another win as they head into the week where they face off against Guelph and McMaster.
This is Macdonald’s first time earning Female Athlete of the Week Honours.
