WATERLOO, Ont. (Saturday, September 2, 2017) – The Laurier Golden Hawks women’s rugby team kicked their season off in fine fashion Saturday night, with an opening 29-25 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues at University Stadium.

The Hawks’ (1-0) victory marked the first win for new Head Coach Brian Quistberg as a member of the Laurier family. Quistberg was hired on in August.

Juliette Lewis (Port Elgin, Ont.) was a strong presence for the Hawks, with her efforts against the Blues (0-1) earning her Female Athlete of the Week honours for the first time in her career.

The win marked the first half of a rugby sweep of Toronto for the purple and gold. The men took it to the Blues Sunday, coming away with a convincing 38-10 victory on the road.

The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, September 16th when they take on Brock in St. Catharines, with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
