WATERLOO, Ont. (October 11, 2016) - Men's football quarterback Michael Knevel of Brantford, Ont., and women’s soccer forward Mackenzie D’Andrade from Newmarket, Ont., have been announced as this week’s Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending August 27, 2017.

Coming off his break-out season last year, where he lead the Hawks to their Yates Cup Championship, Knevel now enters his first full season as the team’s starting quarterback. In what was the Hawks' first game of the season against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday, the geography major set a career-high passing 341 yards. Knevel continued his game success by connecting with receiver Carson Ouellette for a 52-yard touchdown and by adding four rushing yards for his only attempt on the game. Knevel lead Laurier to their first win of the 2017 season, with a 39-0 victory over Toronto.

This is Knevel’s third time earning Male Athlete of the Week Honours.

D’Andrade, a communications major from Newmarket, Ont., was a driving force for the Golden Hawks women's soccer team this weekend. In their first match of the new season on Friday against the Brock Badgers, D’Andrade scored her first goal of the season to get the Hawks to a 2-0 lead before the conclusive 2-2 draw. Furthermore, when the Hawks were trailing the Marauders 2-1 on Sunday’s game, the second year forward earned another goal to her name, which helped Laurier to rally to an eventual 2-2 draw. This performance has led her to being tied second in the league for total goals with two to her name.

This is D’Andrade’s first time earning Female Athlete of the Week Honours.
