WATERLOO, Ont. (July 13, 2017)- Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey head coach Greg Puhalski has announced four recruits who are set to join the purple and gold for the upcoming 2017-18 season

Pulhalski adds defencemen Kyle Jenkins and Anthony Conti, as well as forwards Anthony Sorrentino and Jeremy Pullara to the 2017-18 roster.

Headlining the class is defender Kyle Jenkins of Brampton, Ont. The 6-1 defencemen played  four season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), starting his career in the latter half of the 2012-2013 season with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The former seventh round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Peterborough Petes, where he earned the title of Assistant Captain last year. Last season, in 67 games, he recorded career highs in his time with the OHL, with 12 goals and 37 assists to put him at his all-time high of 49 points. Jenkins also  added two goals and seven assists to the Pete’s playoff run, where he helped his team earn silver at the Eastern Conference Championships. His presence on the blue line last fall saw him sign an amateur tryout agreement with the Edmonton Oilers after participating in the NHL’s rookie camp.

Joining Jenkins is Anthony Conti, who stand at 6-3, and is solid force on both sides of the ice. The North Vancouver, B.C. native comes to Laurier after having played  two seasons in the NCAA with the University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he earned 10 goals and 15 assists throughout his two seasons.  Last season, Conti played 16 games in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) with the Mississippi RiverKings.

Up front, teammates Anthony Sorrentino and Jeremy Pullara, both wingers from Woodbridge, Ont., will help strengthen Laurier’s attack. Sorrentino, standing at 6-4, spent parts of two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) where he played a total of 102 games between the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and the Halifax Mooseheads. He recorded  46 points over the course of his QMJHL career. Most recently, Sorrentino spent the 2016-17 season with the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). There, he registered 11 goals and seven assists in only 14 games, and capped off the regular season with the Hawks winning the league championship . Moreover, he  contributed 16  points in the Golden Hawks 21 playoff game run that saw the Hawks win the RBC Cup. As for Pullara, he served as Assistant Captain of the Hawks last season, and earned 23 goals and 32 assists in just 47 games, which marked an incredble 55 point regular season. During playoffs, he achieved 15 points in 21 games.

The new recruits will have a chance to suit up in purple and gold during the first regular season game of the year, during their home opener. The Hawks will take on Lakehead at the Waterloo Rec Complex on October 13th. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm.
