ORLANDO (May 1, 2017) - Three current athletes on the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks cheerleading team, presented by The Marq, as well as one alum, helped Team Canada capture a bronze medal at the 2017 International Cheerleading Union World Championships this past Friday at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports.

Meghan Clarke of Mississauga, Ont., Emma Heaps of Georgetown, Ont., and Jordyn Witmeyer of Oakville, Ont., along with alum Marley Gray, played instrumental roles in leading Canada to their first-ever medal in the All-Girl Premiere division.

The Canucks finished behind Team USA and Team Finland at the event while edging Team Norway to come home with the hardware.

The result is an impressive one for Team Canada as they improved from their sixth place finish a year ago.

In total, the Canadian team came home for the World Championships with three medals, including gold in the Junior All-Girl Advanced division as well as silver in the Junior Coed Advanced division.

For Clarke, Heaps and Witmeyer, the result caps off an outstanding year that also saw them help the Golden Hawks to their eighth national championship in December.
