WATERLOO, Ont. (January 16, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks cheerleading team, presented by The Marq, will be well represented on the Canadian team that will be competing at the 2017 World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fl., in April.

Three current Golden Hawks, including Meghan Clarke of Mississauga, Ont., Emma Heaps of Georgetown, Ont., and Jordyn Witmeyer of Oakville, Ont., along with alum Marley Gray, will be among the 29 athletes competing for Team Canada in the All-Girl division. Laurier head coach Jennifer Louth will also be there as a member of the team’s coaching staff.

For Heaps, it will be her first time representing Canada while Clarke and Witmeyer have both competed for their country in the past.

“I couldn’t be more excited to coach the team, as well as watch current and former members represent Canada on the world stage,” said Louth on the opportunity for herself and her athletes to represent Canada on the international stage. “This is the first year we have had an entire group made of Laurier athletes make the team, which shows how strong our program has become over the past few seasons. The talent pool in Canada is growing, and making the team has become much more competitive, so that is already a huge accomplishment for the athletes.”

“I think for me, as one of the coaches on the All Girl team, it makes the experience that much more special that I will get to share the experience with girls I know and love coaching,” added Louth. “Coaching Team Canada has always been a goal of mine, so to be recognized at this stage of my coaching career is an incredible honor.”

Canada, who finished sixth at last year’s championships, will be competing in the Premier division along with the United States, Norway, Finland and Denmark.

The competition will run from April 26-28 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.
