WATERLOO, Ont. (May 26, 2015) – The Wilfrid Laurier athletics and recreation department was honoured at the Ontario University Athletics annual general meeting last week in Blue Mountains, Ont., as the annual Honour Awards were presented for the conference.
For the first time the OUA distributed C.H.A.M.P Awards (Celebrating and Honouring Achievements in Marketing and Promotions) and in the inaugural line of recipients was the purple and gold winning Best Marketing Initiative for the campaign #OurPurpleIsBetter.
The campaign was kicked off on social media to promote the men’s basketball regular season matchup against long-time school rival, the Western Mustangs. The game was featured as a part of an annual week-long program called Winter Carnival designed to boost school spirit at Wilfrid Laurier University and with over 1,000 people in attendance, the promotion was a great success.
Communications Coordinator Jamie Howieson was at the AGM to receive the award on behalf of the department. Other inaugural C.H.A.M.P Awards included Photo of the Year (Queen’s Gaels); Best Webcast (Ryerson Rams); Best Video Feature (York Lions); and Best Social Media Account (York lions).
