About Sport Clubs

Welcome to the official Wilfrid Laurier University Sports Club homepage.  Here you will find all the information needed to join an existing club and/or sanction a new club.  You will also find contact information for each club president by clicking on the 'club directory' link.  The 'club directory' link also contains contact information for Amanda Taylor, coordinator of clubs, camps, and aquatics, as well as student leader Courtney Collard, sports club coordinator.

What is a sports club?  That is a good question!  Sports clubs are run by the students, for the students, with a heavy emphasis on student leadership in competition, performance, and team management.  A sanctioned sports club provides a program of instruction, recreation, and/or competition in a specific sport or physical activity.  Club members primarily organize, govern, develop, and largely fund their own activities through membership fees, grants, and fundraising.

Each club member is responsible for representing Wilfrid Laurier University in a respectable manner, including meeting the regulations set forth by the university which can be found in the Laurier Athletics and Recreation Clubs Manual.  This includes but is not limited to appropriate behaviour and avoiding breaches and violations.

Don't see the club you want to join on the list of sanctioned clubs?  No problem!  You can sanction your own club.  To sanction a new club you must submit the "Club Sanctioning Application" which can be found on the right side of this page.  Some quick tips when thinking of sanctioning a new club: have a constitution in mind as every club needs to have one, prepare a budget which would leave the club breaking even ($0) or making money - you cannot have a negative amount after calculating generated revenue and expenses, and you must have a generated interest from the student body in regards to joining.

Applications for Fall/Winter clubs are due FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15th by 5 pm. Applications can be submitted in person or through email.
