Statement of Principles
The Student Athlete Development Program is a pro-active assistance program that focuses on the development of skills necessary for success academically, athletically and personally while in attendance at Wilfrid Laurier University and later in life. The program takes into account the unique needs and demands of life as a student athlete and bases its core principles on that positive life choices.
The Student Athlete Development Program is commiteed to empowering student athletes to become self sufficient, productive, responsible citizens, provides opportunities for academics, athletic, career, community and personal success.
The program is not meant to replace existing student services on campus, but rather to act as an extension of these programs. Student Athletes are referred, encouraged and expected to utilize campus support services whenever possible.
Commitment to Academic Excellence - To support the academic progress of the student athlete toward intellectual development and graduation.
Commitment to Athletic Excellence - To build philosphical foundations for the development of athletics programs that are broad-based, equitable and dedicated to the well being fo the student athlete.
Commitment to Personal Development - To support the development of a well-balanced lifestyle for student athletes, encouraging emotional well being, personal growth and decision-making skills.
Commitment to Career Development - To encourage the student athlete to develop and pursue career and life goals.
Commitment to Service - To engage the student athlete in service to his/her campus and surrounding community.
