Brantford Fitness Classes

Want to get in shape but need some extra motivation to keep you going? Than Laurier Brantford’s Fitness Classes are for you! Since January 2015, Laurier Brantford has been collaborating their fitness classes with the Brantford YMCA, offering you hours of aerobic programming each week. Our new bundled fitness schedule gives you more class variety and more convenient class times. Now bundled into one schedule, classes such as Bootcamp, Cyclefit, Yoga, Zumba, HIIT, and much more will give you that extra push that you are looking for!

All fitness classes are FREE to any Laurier student, Wilkes facility member, or YMCA member. A Fitness Class Pass can be purchased for $2.00 for any non-member or Faculty/Staff who is interested in participating.

Faculty/Staff Fitness Classes

Are you a faculty/staff member that is interested in participating in fitness classes? Check out our Staff/Faculty Fitness Schedule for classes run specifically for staff!

These classes are offered for the low price of $2 a class and all that is required to participate is that you fill out a Registration Form at the start of the semester.

Class Descriptions:

BODY FIT: Gently stretch and tone your whole body in this well-rounded class. Work at your own pace and maintain your strength while improving your flexibility. Build stronger muscles, bones, and joints with weight-bearing exercises designed to challenge your strength & balance. You'll use a variety of equipment like dumbbells, barbells, exercise balls, resistance bands in this class for a great full-body workout!

BOOTCAMP: A modern fitness phenomenon, yet classic military style workout that is guaranteed to get results. This high energy class will test your aerobic and anaerobic systems and will leave you feeling stronger and fitter than ever before. Be prepared for both aerobic and muscle conditioning drills that will work to improve your overall fitness.

CORE: Build strength and muscular endurance in the muscles supporting your torso and spine. Core Strength will have you working with your own body weight and/or a variety of equipment to focus on muscles in your abdomen/pelvis and back. Suitable for all levels.

CYCLEFIT: CycleFit gets your legs pumping with a high-powered indoor bike class set to energetic music. Working those major muscles in your legs also strengthens your most important muscle: your heart. We'll take you through an aerobic and anaerobic workout, simulating hills and valleys or timed athletic drills in the indoor cycling class. You control the intensity of the workout by adjusting your own resistance so this class is open to all fitness levels.

CYCLE & STRENGTH: A full body workout that combines CycleFit drills with muscle building conditioning. Work your heart and lungs to capacity on the indoor bikes, then work your muscles with a selection of equipment including dumbbells, resistance bands and balls.

DANCEX: We all need to bust a move every once in a while so what better way to have fun with friends? Ladies leave your inhibitions at the door, this class is meant to be fun! Learn some moves that will make you want to yell, “I am woman, hear me roar!”. **This is a Women-Only class.

FULL-BODY BLAST: Looking to get a full body workout but a little pressed for time? Full-Body Blast will give you just that! Come in and challenge your muscular endurance and stamina in this quick and effective bootcamp-style class. You will leave feeling strong, energetic and ready to take on the rest of the day!  

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training): When you're short on time but want an effective, full body workout that will leave you breathless, High Intensity Interval Training is your answer. HIIT workouts have been proven to improve your fitness level with a shorter workout. Bursts of cardiovascular and conditioning exercises are coupled with active rest periods. You'll work hard, but at your own intensity level - suitable for all fitness enthusiasts.

HIP HOP SCULPT: Did you realize that dancing is an INCREDIBLE workout? Come let it out on the dancefloor with today’s top dance moves and music. Our Hip Hop Sculpt class uses the latest sounds in Rap, R&B, Dance Music, Pop & Old School in combination with classic hip hop dance elements such as poppin', locking and freestyle movement. Participants will be taught beginner-level combinations throughout the hour long class to piece together into a short dance number at the end.

INSTRUCTOR’S CHOICE: Looking for a Group Fitness workout on a scheduled holiday? On these days we let our instructor's choose. It may be one of your favourites or it could introduce you to some new moves. Either way, you'll enjoy a great YMCA workout.

PILATES: Pilates is a challenging yet safe method to sculpt your body and to feel increased agility in your every day movements. Each class will work to balance all muscle groups' strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on challenging the core muscles with each movement.

ROCK BOTTOM: Rock bottom is a great workout that puts the entire body to work but has more of an emphasis on the glutes, thighs, hamstrings and core muscles to develop a fully strengthened lower body. Get a “bottom” that is as hard as a “rock”!

SCULPT & SWEAT: A classic circuit-style class that will put your strength and muscular endurance to the test. This head to toe work out will teach participants of all fitness levels how to maximize their workout and reach their fitness goals as efficiently as possible.

YOGA: Rediscover and improve your strength, balance, and flexibility through traditional yoga postures. YMCA Yoga class will help you relax your mind while gently challenging, stretching, and relaxing your muscles. Don't worry if you're not flexible: yoga is safe and healthy for a wide range of body types. You’ll soon notice a stronger, more balanced body and an increase in your overall feeling of health and vitality.

ZUMBA: Join the party!  This fun, easy-to-follow, format will introduce you to international dance moves and rhythms. You’ll get the best blend of traditional Zumba flavor with the appropriate dose of fitness options thrown in. You’ll be sweating without even knowing it!
