Onyeka, Guzylak-Messam among Top 20 CFL prospects
TORONTO (April 12, 2018) - A pair of Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football players find themselves among the Top 20 prospects for May’s CFL Draft as the league announced its final Scouting Bureau rankings on Thursday.

Defensive backs Godfrey Onyeka of Brampton, Ont., and Isaiah Guzylak-Messam of Hamilton, head into next month’s draft ranked 10th and 20th respectively after showcasing their skills at last month’s CFL Combine.

Onyeka, who was ranked sixth in the December rankings, falls four spots as a pair of offensive lineman and receivers jumped ahead of the 6-foot-2, 200-pound arts major in the final rankings. Despite the drop, Onyeka ranks fourth among all U SPORTS prospects, and remains the top-ranked defensive back.

Meanwhile, thanks to an impressive performance at the CFL Combine, Guzylak-Messam vaults into the Top 20 prospects as the third-ranked defensive back and 13th among U SPORTS prospects.

According to mock drafts, Onyeka continues to project as a first round selection while Guzylak-Messam is seen as a potential second round pick.

A total of 16 schools are represented on the list, with only two schools (Calgary and Laurier) having multiple players on the list. Nine U SPORTS schools and seven NCAA schools are represented in the rankings.

The CFL Scouting Bureau releases its rankings three times each year: in August, December and April. The Bureau is comprised of CFL scouts, player personnel directors and general managers from the league’s nine teams.
