WATERLOO, Ont. (February 27, 2018) - The Wilfrid Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation announced on Tuesday that the 21st annual Laurier Golf Classic will be hosted at Whistle Bear Golf Club on Monday, June 18, 2018.
The fundraising tournament, which has raised over $2 million for the Student Horizon Fund, the Golden Hawk Scholarship Fund and enhancements for the Department of Athletics and Recreation since its inception in 1998, will be hosted at the exclusive and challenging course, that was home to the Manulife LPGA Classic between 2015 and 2017, for the first time.
“We are thrilled to bring the Laurier Golf Classic to the Whistle Bear Golf Club and we look forward to continuing to provide a first-class golf experience for our participants,” said DAWN SIMONS
, Coordinator, Marketing and Events for Wilfrid Laurier Athletics and Recreation. “Whistle Bear provides outstanding service and a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. We wanted to provide an opportunity where golfers of all skill levels would enjoy a fun and social experience on the greens.”
Whistle Bear, which will be the fifth course to host the tournament, is a links-style course that features 103 bunkers, challenging hills and fescue and water on 10 holes. It appeals to golfers of every skill level and each of the 18 holes tell a story about the history of the land that the course sits on. Featuring a renovated clubhouse that reopened in 2014, the property also consists of wetlands and forests that have been left untouched to preserve the natural habitat of wildlife and plant life in the area.
This year’s tournament will follow a scramble format which will provide golfers with a wide range of skill sets an opportunity to obtain the full Whistle Bear experience.
