LONDON, Ont. (February 11, 2018) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks swim team wrapped up the OUA Championships on Saturday evening at Western University as the women finished eighth in the team standings while the men finished ninth.
The final day of competition saw five Hawks earn points in individual races as the purple and gold closed out the meet in style.
Leading the way once again was Jasmine Raines
of Kitchener, Ont., who continued to build her resume at the conference championships. She opened the finals session by finishing fifth in the 50m breaststroke, posting a time of 32.59 seconds to pick up 14 points for the women.
She then added an 11th place showing in the 200m individual medley, posting a time of 2:23.89, over two seconds faster than her preliminary swim time.
Joining Raines in the 200m individual medley was Jocelyn Chassie
of Kirkland Lake, Ont., as she finished 14th in 2:24.57.
On the men’s side, rookie Ethan Locis
of Cambridge, Ont., became Laurier’s first male to reach an ‘A’ final at the OUA Championships when he swam in the final race of the 200m backstroke. Locis posted a time of 2:05.26 to secure 11 points for the purple and gold.
In the 1500m, fellow rookie Connor Norval
of Richmond Hill, Ont., continued his strong first showing at the OUA Championships as he touched the wall in 16:22.01.
