WATERLOO, Ont. (February 5, 2018) - Men's basketball guard Ali Sow
of Ottawa, Ont. and indoor middle distance runner Jessica Martin
of Port Elgin, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2018.
Sow put up an impressive performance on the court this weekend. The global studies major scored a career-high 31 points, going 10-for-19 from the field, against the No.2 team in Canada, the Brock Badgers. Although the purple and gold lost 73-69, Sow also put up five assists and three rebounds in the game proving his well-rounded strength on the court. Although the Hawks lost 90-83 in the second game of the week against Windsor, Sow added 14 points, three assists and three rebounds. With his performance, he is now first in OUA rookie scoring at 15.9 points per game.
This is Sow's second time earning Male Athlete of the Week honours.
Martin, a third-year communication studies major, put together an impressive performance at the York Open this past weekend. In the 1000-meter race, she ran a new personal best time of 3:05.18 to capture a silver medal, one of three medals won by Laurier at the event. Her showing improved her season-best time by nearly four seconds from the Don Wright Meet earlier this semester.
This is Martin's first time earning Female Athlete of the Week honours.
