Laurier: 0 QUEEN'S: 3
OSHAWA, Ont. (February 3, 2018) – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team was shutout in back-to-back road games this weekend as they fell 3-0 to the No. 7 Queen’s Gaels on Friday night and 4-0 to the UOIT Ridgebacks on Saturday afternoon.
Against Queen’s, Laurier stuck close with the nationally-ranked Gaels throughout the contest but early goals in the first and second periods proved to be the difference before Queen’s iced the game in the third with an empty net tally.Hannah Miller
of Georgetown, Ont., got the start for the Hawks and made 22 saves in defeat.
Miller was back between the pipes on Saturday against the Ridgebacks but struggled as she allowed three goals on 14 shots before being replaced by Cohen Myers
of Shakespeare, Ont., early in the second period.
Myers would play well the rest of the way for the Hawks, stopping 20 of the 21 shots she faced, but the damage had been done as Laurier dropped to 2-1-14-3 on the year.
The losses marked the ninth and 10th times this season that Laurier has failed to find the back of the net in a game.
The Hawks will return to Waterloo for their final home games of the regular season this upcoming week. On Friday night, they host UOIT in the return leg of the home-and-home showdown before welcoming Queen’s to town on Saturday night.
Prior to Saturday’s game against the Gaels, head coach Rick Osborne
will be honoured for his 15 seasons behind the bench of the purple and gold.
Puck drop for both games is schedule for 7:07 p.m. at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
