The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s basketball team have won six of their past seven games, in the process, showcasing that they are a cut above most of their rivals in the OUA West. Last week, the Hawks (9-9) impressively followed up a tight loss to McMaster by thumping their rivals from Waterloo 97-78 on their home court. The second half of that contest was the type of dominant showing that would lead people to believe that the purple and gold are ready to move up a weight class in the OUA and challenge the elite.

This Wednesday’s matchup against the U SPORTS No. 2 Brock Badgers (16-2) provides the Hawks with that type of opportunity at seemingly the perfect juncture in their season. Laurier have proven in the past with a win over nationally-ranked Ottawa that they do have the ability, but it will all be about bringing the right intensity and executing on the game plan for all four quarters.

The fun does not stop there for the Hawks this week though, as they travel to Windsor on Friday night in a game with huge playoff implications. The Lancers (9-9) are currently deadlocked with the Hawks for the third seed in the West. Both teams desperately need the win, and with time running out to catch Western (11-7) at the No. 2 seed, they need the win now.

-    Join the Hawks at the UW PAC on Wednesday night as they celebrate Bell Let’s Talk Day
-    Laurier students looking to attend the game against Brock can catch one of two fan buses to the game at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Buses will pick up next to the Athletic Complex on University Avenue, across from the pool
-    The Hawks have bitter memories from the last time they visited the St. Denis Centre in Windsor, being burned by a game-winner at the horn
-    Kemel Archer (Brampton, Ont.) received his first Laurier Male Athlete of the Week honour on Monday for his exploits last week, scoring a career-high 23 against McMaster

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (9-9)

F Ntore Habimana (Mississauga, Ont.)
-    The second-year forward provided a terrific spark for the Hawks in Friday’s win over Waterloo, scoring a career-high 19 points, adding seven rebounds
-    Habimana was extremely aggressive in getting to the rack, creating and-one opportunities and even powering home a couple massive slams. Head Coach JUSTIN SERRESSE believes that he can bring this intensity every time out on the floor

No. 2 Brock Badgers (16-2)

F Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.)
-    The Badgers’ leader has averaged nearly 18 points and 10 rebounds a game this season, scoring in double digits in every game
-    Showed no mercy towards his other hometown team the Warriors, putting up 18 points in just 21 minutes in Brock’s 101-58 blowout of Waterloo Saturday

Windsor Lancers (9-9)

G Marcus Jones (Brantford, Ont.)
-    Proved to be a very dangerous option for the run-and-gun Lancers in the teams’ previous meeting, scoring 16 points to go along with four steals
