WATERLOO, Ont. (January 16, 2018) - Wilfrid Laurier’s Department of Athletics and Recreation announced on Tuesday that this weekend’s varsity basketball doubleheaders against the Algoma Thunderbirds will be hosted at the University of Waterloo’s Physical Activities Complex (PAC) on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
Friday night’s women’s and men’s game will be hosted as scheduled at 6 and 8 p.m. respectively. Saturday afternoon’s games will be moved up one hour with the women playing at 12 p.m. and the men at 2 p.m. to allow proper setup time for Waterloo’s varsity volleyball games in the evening.
The change of venue for the games was necessitated by the closure of the main court at the Athletic Complex for at least the next four weeks due to flooding.
“We are incredibly grateful to Waterloo Director of Athletics and Recreation Roly Webster and his team for all their assistance in accommodating us this weekend,” commented Wilfrid Laurier Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Baxter
. “His group has bent over backwards for us in this difficult situation and made it possible for this weekend’s games to be played as scheduled. It’s been great collaboration between the two department staffs.”
“We’d also like to thank our head coaches, Justin Serresse
and PAUL FALCO
, as well as their student-athletes for being understanding and flexible as this process plays out,” added Baxter. “They are being put in a difficult position but I have every confidence that they will use this adversity to their advantage as they push towards the playoffs.”
