Varsity basketball games vs Algoma to move to UW PAC
WATERLOO, Ont. (January 16, 2018) - Wilfrid Laurier’s Department of Athletics and Recreation announced on Tuesday that this weekend’s varsity basketball doubleheaders against the Algoma Thunderbirds will be hosted at the University of Waterloo’s Physical Activities Complex (PAC) on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

Friday night’s women’s and men’s game will be hosted as scheduled at 6 and 8 p.m. respectively. Saturday afternoon’s games will be moved up one hour with the women playing at 12 p.m. and the men at 2 p.m. to allow proper setup time for Waterloo’s varsity volleyball games in the evening.

The change of venue for the games was necessitated by the closure of the main court at the Athletic Complex for at least the next four weeks due to flooding.

“We are incredibly grateful to Waterloo Director of Athletics and Recreation Roly Webster and his team for all their assistance in accommodating us this weekend,” commented Wilfrid Laurier Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Baxter. “His group has bent over backwards for us in this difficult situation and made it possible for this weekend’s games to be played as scheduled. It’s been great collaboration between the two department staffs.”

“We’d also like to thank our head coaches, Justin Serresse and Paul Falco, as well as their student-athletes for being understanding and flexible as this process plays out,” added Baxter. “They are being put in a difficult position but I have every confidence that they will use this adversity to their advantage as they push towards the playoffs.”

Fans making the trip over to the University of Waterloo will be able to access the game through the North entrance to the PAC where ticketing staff will be set up to sell and scan tickets. There is signage in place at other entrances to the building which will direct fans to the North entrance. To ease entrance into the game, fans are encouraged to buy tickets ahead of time online at tickets.laurierathletics.com.

Parking for fans will be available for free in Lot X, located on the north side of the Optometry building on Hagey Blvd., or pay and display in Lot M, located off of Ring Road and a short walk up the hill from the North entrance of the PAC. For fans taking public transit from Laurier, the closest exit to the PAC is the University of Waterloo/Biology stop on Route 200 on Ring Road. For more information, visit GRT.ca.

Information on venues for other upcoming home games for varsity basketball impacted by the main court closure at the Athletic Complex will be announced as they are secured.
