WATERLOO, Ont. (January 15, 2018) - Men’s basketball guard Ali Sow
of Ottawa, and women's indoor middle distance runner Bettina Boucher
from Whitby, Ont., have been named the Laurier Hawk Shop Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 14, 2018.
Sow put up an impressive performance this weekend where the rookie flew off the bench both games to lead his team to a pair of wins, extending the Hawks win streak to three games. In the 83-65 victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday, Sow secured 20 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 26 minutes. Up against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, the global studies major hit a new career high in points with 24 points, to go alongside three rebounds and two steals to help the Hawks take the victory 79-64. With his performance, he moves to second in the OUA in rookie scoring at 15.1 points per game and fourth overall in the conference for three-point shooting percentage at 45.5 percent.
This is Sow’s first time earning Male Athlete of the Week honours.
Boucher, a third-year Business and Financial Math double major, put in a strong showing at the Can Am Meet in Windsor this past weekend. In the 1500-meter race, Boucher finished first overall with a time of 4:40.00, career-best for her at the distance. Her showing moves the 2017 OUA Cross Country Second Team All-Star into the Top 3 in Ontario just over a month before the OUA Championships.
This is Boucher’s third time earning Female Athlete of the Week honours.
