TORONTO (November 20, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks swim team competed in their third event against OUA competition this weekend as they partook in a Quad Meet hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Competing against the powerhouse Blues, the Queen’s Gaels and the York Lions, the Golden Hawks swam away with 10 Top 3 finishes at the meet, highlighted by three strong results from Jasmine Raines
of Kitchener, Ont. The second year swimmer won the 200m breaststroke in a time of two minutes, 30.34 seconds before finishing second in the 100m breaststroke in 1:11.49 and third in the 200m individual medley at 2:31.55.
Her times in the 200m and 100m breaststroke were under the qualification standard for the U SPORTS Championships which she will compete in this February at the University of Toronto.
The Hawks other first place finish came from Bayley Dalbec
of Brampton, Ont., in the 200m freestyle where she won the event in 2:14.88.
Two rookies for the purple and gold had notable performances at the meet including John Stoyan
of Toronto and Rachel Tucker
of Beeton, Ont. Stoyan grabbed a second place finish in the 100m breaststroke thanks to a time of 1:07.23 while Tucker was third in the 200m freestyle at 2:19.41.
Other swimmers to earn Top 3 finishes included Max Hughes
in the 200m breaststroke (third), Jacob Eby
in the 200m freestyle (second) and the men’s 200m medley relay (third).
Laurier will be back in the pool this week for two different events. On Friday, the Hawks will compete in a Tri Meet at the University of Waterloo in preparation for the deBray Division Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Brock University.
