ST. CATHARINE’S, Ont. (November 17, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to the Brock Badgers in overtime at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Friday night.

Straight off the opening whistle, the purple and gold fell into an offensive groove and dominated the visitors ice.

By the end of the second period, the Hawks found themselves in position to win their third straight game with a 2-0 lead, thanks to the hands of Jeremy Pullara of Vaughan, Ont., and Erik Pushka from Dugald, Man.

However, in the final frame, the Badgers managed to claw their way onto the scoreboard.

It was Brock’s veteran winger Sammy Banga of Windsor, Ont., who single handedly broke Laurier’s lead. With less than three minutes on the clock, Banga pulled the Badgers to within one, and then found the equalizer off a penalty shot with 30 seconds left in the game to send the contest to overtime.

Here, Laurier’s two game winning streak was cut short by first year Josh Timpano (Orillia, Ont.) of Brock, causing the Golden Hawks to head home with a 3-2 loss under their belts.

Despite the defeat, Laurier netminder Chris Festarini (Oakville, Ont.) had an admirable performance, shutting down 29 of 32 shots.

On the other side of the ice, Brock’s goalie Clint Windsor (Hamilton, Ont.) was peppered with 36 shots from Laurier, and turned away 34 on the night.

With tonight’s single point performance, the purple and gold are now 7-2-2 on the season and are tied for second in the OUA West with 16 points.

The Golden Hawks will look to return to their winning ways on Saturday night, when they host the Western Mustangs at Sun Life Financial Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting and the game can be seen live on
