MRUG falls to McMaster in bronze medal match
Laurier: 19 McMaster: 26
HAMILTON (November 13, 2017) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s rugby team came up just short in their quest for the program’s first-ever OUA medal as they lost 26-19 to the McMaster Marauders in the OUA Bronze Medal match on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks started the game strong thanks to a try from 2017 OUA Most Valuable Player Andrew Quattrin of Holland Landing, Ont., as the fourth year four the try line and a successful convert staked the Hawks to a 7-0 lead.

After McMaster went ahead 12-7, Laurier evened the score as Bastien Demas-Pandraud of Villars, France recorded his third try of the playoffs.

The game turned in favour of the Marauders late in the first half and early as the second half as tries from William Kelly of Ancaster, Ont., and Jack McRogers of Newmarket, Ont., staked the home team to a 26-12 advantage.

The Hawks tried to rally late as Quattrin scored his second try of the contest but Laurier would come up short in their last minute effort to tie the contest, ultimately falling short of evening the score by a converted try.

Despite the loss, the fourth place result still represents the best-ever for the Hawks in modern program history.
